The Inkwell’s Story

Inkwell’s Editorial Services was founded in 2009 by Senior Editor Ashley Rayner. She had just finished an internship with McGrawHill-Ryerson. A project she was working on at the time hadn’t quite wrapped up, and the author insisted on having that editor see it through to the end.

Since then, Ashley’s been bringing her brand of editorial magic to a wide variety of clients, including book publishers, independent authors, students, and businesses. She has over a decade of experience in the book publishing industry, having worked with McGrawHill-Ryerson, Firefly Books, the University of Toronto Press, Canadian Scholars’ Press, and James Lorimer & Co.

She’s also provided blogging services for businesses in the cannabis industry, merchant payment services, the financial industry, the insurance industry, human resources services, and many more. She’s also a travel writer and author in her spare time.

In 2017, Ashley returned to Inkwell’s Editorial Services full-time. In early 2018, Nikki Bell Morrison joined the Inkwell’s team as Junior Editor. A graduate of the University of Guelph with a Bachelor’s in English and the Humber Creative Book Publishing Program, Nikki brings expertise in substantive editing and fiction editing to the team.

Inkwell’s Editorial Services is pleased to provide services to clients across Canada and around the world. You can follow the team on Facebook and Twitter, as well as LinkedIn and Reedsy.

Meet Our Editors

Ashley Rayner—Senior Editor

Ashley has loved books since she was a child. She was reading books on her own before she reached kindergarten! When she was asked what her back-up plan for becoming a writer was, she decided that becoming an editor was a good bet. From then on, becoming an editor was her goal.

Ashley graduated from the University of Guelph with a Honours degree in English, and she followed that up with a Certificate in Publishing from the Humber Creative Book Publishing Program. She interned for McGrawHill-Ryerson and Firefly Books, before joining the University of Toronto Press. In 2009, she founded Inkwell’s Editorial and has been providing editorial services to a wide variety of clients since.

Nikki Bell Morrison—Junior Editor

Nikki didn’t plan to become editor, even though she was surrounded by books for the majority of her life. Reading books, examining language, and thinking about story elements was fun, but it didn’t seem like a job option. It wasn’t until she started university that she shifted course. Editing allows her to blend her love of reading and her passion for analyzing the stories in her hands. Now she can’t imagine being on any other career path.

Nikki graduated from the University of Guelph with an Honours degree in English. A Certificate in Publishing from the Humber Creative Book Publishing Program was next. She has also completed the Copy and Stylistic Editing I course from The Chang School of Continuing Education at Ryerson University

We could talk all day about our experience, but we know you’d rather hear it straight from the horse’s mouth. Here’s what our clients have to say about working with us!

Ashley is a terrific editor. She’s incredibly detail-oriented, and even the longest and toughest manuscripts don’t phase her. She possesses an incredibly good and patient manner when interacting with authors, which is a tremendous asset. When I’ve hired Ashley for a job, I know it will be done right and done on time. That peace of mind is very important to me.”
